Cruise Port Guide
Quick answerSmaller and mid-sized ships berth at Vrulje Quay, about 0.5 km from the Old Town, so you can walk to St James's Cathedral in around 10 minutes. Larger ships anchor off the town and tender in. Be back on board 60 minutes before all-aboard if docked, 90 minutes if tendering, and allow much more for Krka.

Open my full Šibenik day, timed to 17:30 Get this for every port on your cruise, with alerts on the day Write about Šibenik? Put these leave-by times on your blog, freeŠibenik is a compact stone town climbing a hill above its harbour, with a UNESCO-listed cathedral, a hilltop fortress and a maze of stepped lanes. The cruise quay at Vrulje is on the edge of the centre, so the town itself needs no transport. The big decision is Krka National Park: its waterfalls are close, but public buses to Skradin are hourly at best, so an independent trip needs a long call and careful timing.
Walkable? Yes · about 10 min (0.5 km)
The Old Town and St James's Cathedral are a short walk from Vrulje. Inside the Old Town, lanes are narrow and stepped; St Michael's Fortress is at the top of the hill.

Docked at Vrulje: be back on board 60 minutes before all-aboard (16:30 for a 17:30 all-aboard). Tendering: be at the tender landing 90 minutes before. Krka by bus: catch a bus from Skradin at least 2 hours 30 minutes before all-aboard, and leave Skradinski buk at least 3 hours 30 minutes before.
The town is close, so the main risk is Krka. Buses run hourly or every 90 minutes and the park boat between the falls and Skradin takes about 25 minutes. Plan around the actual return timetable, not the outbound one.
If you're running late
If you miss the last workable bus from Skradin, take a taxi or Bolt back to Šibenik (20–30 minutes by car). If you will miss all-aboard, call the port agent number on your daily programme straight away.
The Port of Šibenik has two cruise berths at Vrulje Quay and can take two ships at once. Larger ships, or ships needing deeper water, use an anchorage (the port authority names Zablaće outside the channel, plus an inner anchorage west and south-west of the cathedral) and run their own tenders, which the port allows. Ask your ship where tenders land.

Do the Old Town, cathedral and fortress on your own: they start a short walk from the quay. Krka is where the ship tour earns its price. Independent travel works only on a long call, because buses to Skradin are hourly at best and the park boat adds about 25 minutes each way; a ship tour removes the timetable risk.
Going to Krka by bus without checking the return timetable.
Instead: Buses are hourly or every 90 minutes. Pick your return bus before you leave and keep 90 minutes in hand at the ship.

Assuming every ship docks.
Instead: Larger ships anchor and tender; check your daily programme and add 30 minutes to every return time.
Šibenik is a calm town for visitors. The main hazards are summer heat and slippery stone steps in the Old Town and on the climb to the fortresses. At Krka, stay on the boardwalks and follow the swimming ban. Carry water and wear shoes with grip.
Emergency number: 112
Crowds
Šibenik recorded 35 foreign cruise ship calls in the first half of 2026, and the port can take two ships at once. Krka is busiest in July and August; afternoon tickets after 15:00 are cheaper but do not suit a cruise schedule. In town, do the fortress early and the cathedral before tour groups arrive.
Accessibility
The walk from Vrulje to the Old Town is short. Most of the Old Town is stepped and steep. St Michael's Fortress has a lift from a plateau below the fortress for visitors with limited mobility, and people with disabilities and a companion enter free. At Krka, the boardwalk loop is long and parts are uneven; ask the park about step-free sections.
If it rains
Use St James's Cathedral, the Old Town lanes and cafés on Kalelarga. Fortress views are lost in low cloud, and Krka's boardwalks and the town's stone steps get slippery.

Your whole cruise, planned like this
The day plan above assumes a 17:30 all-aboard. Your ship's times will differ, and so will every other stop. Pro builds the plan from your ship's real times: a timed day in Šibenik and every other port, a leave-by time for each stop, and a Plan B if you run late. Ultimate adds a live leave-by countdown from where you are on the day. Every plan uses the same checked facts as this guide. Nothing is made up.
