1. Who We Are

PortTrip is an AI-powered cruise port planning platform. We help passengers plan their time in port — including itineraries, transport, budgets, and booking recommendations. References to "PortTrip", "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refer to the PortTrip service and its operators.

2. What Data We Collect

Account Information

• Email address (used to create and manage your account)
• Display name (if provided)
• Account role and subscription tier

Itinerary & Planning Data

• Cruise details you enter (ship name, ports, dates, all-aboard times)
• Day plans and port itineraries you create
• Stops, preferences (travel mode, group type, budget), and notes
• Expenses you log within the app

Usage & Analytics

• Pages and features you interact with
• Events such as plan generation, ticket link clicks, and itinerary exports
• Device type, browser, and approximate location (country-level)
• Session duration and navigation patterns

Crew (tours organised by passengers)

If you propose or join a Crew tour, we store your display name, email address, the sailing and the tour you signed up for. Your display name and email address are shared with the tour's Organiser; an Organiser's email address is shared with the tour's Members. We use this data only to run Crew and to send the emails that belong to it (for example, when someone joins or a tour is cancelled). The legal basis is the performance of the service you asked for. We delete Crew data no later than 90 days after the sailing ends. Organisers and Members may use each other's details only to coordinate that tour (see section 9 of our Terms).

Payment Information

If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your card number or payment credentials. We only receive confirmation of payment and your subscription status.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To generate and personalise AI-powered itineraries for your port visits
• To save and sync your plans across devices
• To show relevant port guides, tips, and booking recommendations
• To manage your account and subscription
• To improve the product based on aggregate usage patterns
• To send transactional emails (e.g. login links, subscription receipts)
• To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising targeting by third parties.

4. Cookies and Tracking

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and understand how the product is used.

Types of cookies we use:

• Session cookies — required for login and authentication
• Preference cookies — remember your settings (e.g. view mode, language)
• Analytics cookies — understand feature usage and page performance (aggregated, not sold)

You can disable non-essential cookies in your browser settings. This may affect some features of the app.

5. Third-Party Services

PortTrip integrates with several third-party services to deliver its features:

• Google Maps — for interactive port maps and location data (governed by Google's Privacy Policy)
• OpenAI — AI-generated itinerary content is processed via OpenAI's API (no personal data is sent, only planning context)
• Stripe — payment processing for subscriptions (governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy)
• GetYourGuide and other affiliate partners — when you click a booking link, you may be taken to a third-party site. We may earn a commission. Their privacy policies apply once you leave PortTrip.

We carefully select integrations and ensure your data is only shared to the extent necessary to deliver the service.

6. Affiliate Links

Some links within PortTrip — particularly for attraction tickets and tour bookings — are affiliate links. This means we may earn a small commission if you make a purchase through these links, at no extra cost to you. We only recommend services we believe are relevant and useful for cruise passengers.

All affiliate links are provided for your convenience as part of the planning experience. PortTrip is not responsible for the content, pricing, or accuracy of third-party booking platforms.

7. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard infrastructure. We use encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest for sensitive data. Access to user data is restricted to authorised personnel only.

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Planning data (itineraries, expenses) is retained until you delete it or close your account.

No system is 100% secure. While we take strong precautions, we cannot guarantee absolute security of data transmitted over the internet.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Deletion — request that we delete your account and associated data
• Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
• Objection — object to certain types of processing (e.g. analytics)
• Withdrawal of consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time

9. Children's Privacy

PortTrip is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify registered users by email or in-app notice. Continued use of PortTrip after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
