Cruise Port Guide
Quick answerBusan is a docking port with two cruise berths. Large ships use the Busan Port International Cruise Terminal on Yeongdo (Dongsam-dong), which is not walkable: take the ship's shuttle if offered or a taxi, 15–25 minutes to Nampo-dong. Ships up to about 100,000 tons can berth at the North Port International Passenger Terminal, a 10–15 minute walk from Busan Station and the subway. Leave Nampo-dong 90 minutes before all-aboard.

Put these leave-by times on your blog, freeBusan is Korea's second city and its biggest port, and the cruise day depends on which berth you get. The Yeongdo terminal sits on an industrial stretch of Yeongdo island across the harbour from the old centre, so you start every trip with a road transfer. North Port is right in the city next to Busan Station, with a walkway to the station and Subway Line 1. Most first-time visitors spend the day in the Nampo-dong area: Jagalchi fish market, Gukje Market, BIFF Square and Yongdusan Park with Busan Tower. Gamcheon Culture Village, Taejongdae and the beaches at Haeundae and Gwangalli are all possible, but each adds real road time, and traffic over the bridges is the main return risk.
Walkable? Partly · about 15 min (0.5 km)
From North Port you can walk to Busan Station in 10–15 minutes and continue by subway; the Nampo-dong sights are too far to make the whole trip on foot comfortably. From the Yeongdo terminal walking is not practical at all. Once in Nampo-dong, Jagalchi, Gukje Market, BIFF Square and Yongdusan Park are close together on foot.
Where your ship docks
Cruise line shuttle (Yeongdo terminal)
Varies by line; free on some calls, paid on others15–25 min to central Busan
Shuttles run to fixed drop-off points downtown, typically in the Nampo-dong area. Whether one is offered, and what it costs, depends on the cruise line and the call. Check your daily programme and note the last return time.
Taxi
Metered; base fare ₩4,800 for the first 2 km, 20% surcharge midnight–04:00 (2026)15–25 min Yeongdo terminal to Nampo-dong; about 5 min North Port to Busan Station
Taxis are metered. Drivers rarely speak English, so show the destination in Korean on your phone or on paper, and carry the terminal's Korean address for the return. Kakao T is the main taxi app but needs setting up in advance. In 2026 Busan began bringing in English-language receipts to cut fare disputes.
Walk and Subway Line 1 (North Port)
₩1,300 per ride with a T-money or Cashbee card (2026); single tickets cost more10–15 min walk to Busan Station, then a short ride
Walk from the terminal to Busan Station on the elevated walkway, then take Line 1 to Nampo or Jagalchi. A rechargeable transport card costs ₩2,500–4,500 and also works on city buses. Station signs include English.
City bus
Lower with a transport card than in cashVaries
Useful for Gamcheon Culture Village (bus Saha 2-2 from Busan Station, or Line 1 to Toseong-dong exit 6 then a short bus) and Taejongdae (bus 30 from Nampo-dong, about 30–40 min). Use Naver Map or KakaoMap for live times; they are more accurate in Korea than Google Maps.
Know your all-aboard time? Build the whole day around it.
Leave Nampo-dong or Jagalchi 90 minutes before all-aboard, and Haeundae or Haedong Yonggungsa 150 minutes before. Aim to be at the ship 60 minutes before all-aboard.
Every return to the Yeongdo terminal goes by road over the bridges to the island, and afternoon traffic can slow it sharply. If you rely on the ship's shuttle, check the last departure from the drop-off point; it may be well before all-aboard. From North Port the walk from Busan Station is short, but Haeundae and the east coast are still 45–75 minutes away by road.
If you're running late
Take a taxi straight to the terminal and show the driver the Korean address (Yeongdo: 부산 영도구 해양로 301; North Port: 부산 동구 충장대로 206). If you will miss all-aboard, call the port agent number in your daily programme at once.
Assumes the ship docks at the Yeongdo terminal at 08:00 and all-aboard is 17:30. From North Port, walk to Busan Station and take Line 1 instead of the taxi.
08:30 Ashore. Take the ship's shuttle if offered, or a taxi to Jagalchi Station, with the destination written in Korean.
09:00 Jagalchi fish market. The second-floor restaurants open at 09:00; buy seafood downstairs and have it prepared upstairs, or order from a menu.
10:15 Taxi to Gamcheon Culture Village. Buy the stamp map at the information centre and walk the hillside lanes.
12:15 Taxi back to Nampo-dong. Lunch at the Gukje Market food alley: bibim dangmyeon or chungmu gimbap.
13:30 BIFF Square for ssiat hotteok, then walk up to Yongdusan Park and Busan Tower.
15:00 Last browse around Gwangbok-ro, close to the taxi rank or shuttle stop.
16:00 Leave Nampo-dong by taxi or shuttle, 90 minutes before all-aboard.

Nampo-dong, Jagalchi, Gukje Market and Yongdusan Park are close together and simple to do on your own, especially from North Port. Gamcheon Culture Village is a short taxi ride and also fine alone. The ship's tour is worth considering for Haedong Yonggungsa and Haeundae when your ship is at Yeongdo, because the round trip by road can take two to three hours in traffic, and for Gyeongju, which is too far for a safe independent return on a normal call.
Assuming you can walk into town from the cruise terminal.
Instead: Check which berth you have. From Yeongdo you need the shuttle or a taxi; only North Port is walkable to Busan Station.
Showing a taxi driver an English place name.
Instead: Carry destinations and the terminal address in Korean, or a pin in KakaoMap or Naver Map.
Relying on Google Maps for routes and times.
Instead: Use Naver Map or KakaoMap, which have fuller transit and walking data in Korea.
Trying to fit Haeundae, Haedong Yonggungsa and Gamcheon into one day.
Instead: They are on opposite sides of the city. Pick the east coast or the Nampo and Gamcheon side, not both.
Planning Jagalchi on the wrong Tuesday.
Instead: The market closes on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month; check your date.
Busan is a safe city for visitors and street crime is low. The practical risks are traffic and getting lost: crossings are busy, and many routes need a Korean-language destination. Gamcheon and Haedong Yonggungsa involve steep slopes and stone steps, so wear good shoes. Carry your cruise card and photo ID ashore. Emergency numbers are 112 for police and 119 for fire and ambulance.
Scams and tourist traps
Emergency number: 112 (police), 119 (fire and ambulance)
Crowds
Busan expects more than 400 cruise calls in 2026, and the Nampo-dong markets also draw large local and domestic crowds. Start at Jagalchi early, before the lunchtime rush. Haedong Yonggungsa is calmest before 09:00 and busiest at weekends from 10:00 to 14:00. Gukje Market is quieter on Sundays because many stalls close.
Accessibility
North Port links to Busan Station by an elevated walkway, and the subway is the easiest step-free way into Nampo-dong. From Yeongdo, ask whether the ship's shuttle has a lift or ramp, or book a larger taxi through the ship. Jagalchi's indoor market and Gukje Market are on the flat but crowded. Gamcheon Culture Village is steep with stairs, and Haedong Yonggungsa has many stone staircases and is not wheelchair accessible.
If it rains
Stay under cover in Nampo-dong: the indoor Jagalchi Market building with its upstairs restaurants, the covered parts of Gukje Market, and Busan Tower if the cloud is high enough to see. Skip Gamcheon and Taejongdae, where slopes and steps get slippery and the views disappear.
